When you test products for a living, you start to get passionate about which brands you buy for yourself and which ones you recommend to your friends and family. In all my years of working at Reviewed, there’s one brand I am a self-proclaimed evangelist for—and it’s Big Blanket.
Since first testing the brand’s Big Blanket in 2019, I’ve been obsessed, stocking up on just about every new release they unveil. This year, I got the chance to test out the brand’s Big Bedding suite, which includes sheets, a duvet, a duvet cover, and two pillowcases.
After testing the Big Bedding suite for the past eight months, I can confidently say it’s the best bedding my partner and I have ever slept on. Here’s why.
The Big Bedding is perfect for tall people and those who like excess bedding.
As you can imagine, Big Blanket is known for its very large blanket, which measures 10-feet-by-10-feet. The Big Blanket is large enough to drape around king-sized beds, couches, floors, and picnic areas, and in my four years of owning it, it hasn’t had a single thread loose. My favorite version is the Original Stretch, crafted from an incredibly cozy polyester-spandex blend. I’ve also tried the Premier Plush blanket, and while it’s not as comfy as the original, it’s a great blanket if you prefer plush styles.
In 2023, the Big Blanket unveiled its first line of bedding—aptly known as Big Bedding—which includes sheets, pillowcases, a duvet, and a duvet cover. The brand claims the bedding is 25% larger than standard sizes in both sizing and depth.
The Big Bedding suite comes in just four sizes: Queen, King, Split King, and California King.
Big Bedding is attractive, comfy, and—of course—very big.
It should come as no surprise to hear that the Big Bedding is, in fact, quite big. I’m only 5’2”, but my husband is 6’1”, which means even with our standard king-sized bedding, his feet can poke out of the sheets at night. He does not have that issue with the Big Bedding—the fitted sheet rests perfectly on our king-sized bed, but the top sheet is huge and drapes over both sides of our mattress, providing him ample room to kick his feet around without worrying about losing any sheet real estate.
The duvet and cover are the same; my husband and I tend to wrap ourselves in our comforter, which can lead to some blanket hogging in the middle of the night. But not with the Big Bedding—there’s so much extra duvet to go around that we both get ample burrito material.
Big Blanket says its sheets are cooling and they’re not joking—I tend to sleep hot and sweat through just about every sheet set we own, but for the first time, I didn’t sweat through the Big Blanket sheets. These sheets were game-changing for me over the summer.
The Big Bedding duvet comes with snap-on ties that make assembly easy.
I love owning a duvet, but I’ve been burned with poorly fitting duvet covers in the past. For a few years, we used the Buffy comforter, but every week, we’d have to untie the cover and readjust the duvet to prevent bunching. The Big Blanket uses snaps—not ties—to keep the duvet and its cover connected, which has made a significant difference in how often the two separate during the night. We still have to readjust the duvet every few weeks, but it’s much less frequently than we have with previous duvets from Kohl’s and Buffy.
At the end of the day, one of the most important considerations for any bedding should be its comfort level—and in this regard, the Big Bedding excels. The sheets are incredibly soft and have gotten even more so over the past several months. The duvet has retained its fluffiness, and the cover is just as comfy as the sheets. I'm very particular about my duvet covers, and this one doesn't disappoint.
The Big Bedding sheets can get unruly quickly.
The sheets are great or my tall husband, but for me—who barely cracks five feet—they’re a little bit too much fabric for me to handle. Sometimes I’ll wake up in the middle of the night wrapped in sheets with no idea where the corner (or my body) is. You’ll also have to re-tuck your sheets every morning to prevent them from bunching up or getting too much sheet on one side of the bed. For me, 25% may be just a touch too big for the sheets (but the duvet is perfect).
The Big Bedding suite isn’t cheap, but its price is on par with its competitors in the bedding space. Queen-sized sheets are $179, while two pillowcases are $39 ($218 for both)—for comparison, our favorite percale sheets are $185. The duvet insert retails for $279, priced comparably with our favorite duvet inserts. The duvet cover is another $179—the Buffy is only $125 and the Brooklinen is only $149.
The full bedding suite costs a little under $700 for Queen ($800 for King). It’s a pretty penny, but unlike competitors’ offerings, you’re paying for that 25% extra material. It’s also worth noting that Big Blanket runs frequent sales, so you can snag the bedding for less if you shop at the right time. At the time of publication, the bedding suite is 10% off, bringing the cost down to $609.
The Big Bedding is so soft, even my cats are obsessed with it.
If you’re in the market for new bedding—especially if you’re tall—the Big Bedding is well worth the splurge. Its sheets and duvet cover are supremely soft, while the duvet is fluffy and long-lasting.
At Reviewed, we don’t keep the products we test. After I sent back the Big Bedding suite, I immediately bought my own, which I’ve been using daily since January.
