Labor Day is a federal holiday that falls on the first Monday of September. This year, Labor Day lands on Monday, September 4. The three-day weekend has become a major shopping holiday, with noteworthy discounts on big-ticket items like appliances and mattresses.

According to Price,"buying a mattress on Labor Day is a great choice. Many individual brands as well as larger distributors like Walmart and Amazon hold sales during Labor Day weekend, so you should be able to find options you like at a discount." There are already early Labor Day mattress deals weeks before the holiday arrives, and we expect plenty more to land in the coming weeks. Whatever kind of mattress you're looking for, you should be able to find it for less this month.

Buying the right mattress is an involved shopping process. Not only is it a financial investment, it can also effect your sleep cycle and thus, your overall wellbeing. Here are a few things you'll want to keep in mind as you shop:

Know your preferences ahead of time: "Knowing which size, thickness, and mattress type (foam, hybrid, innerspring) you want before beginning your search significantly cuts down on the time it will take to find the right mattress for you," says Price.

Do some digging: Sometimes, the brand you're shopping from doesn't have the best deal."If you are hunting for a sale, check both larger online marketplaces like Amazon or Walmart as well as the individual sites of brands you love or are interested in," Price continues.

Do your research: There are plenty of reviews, ratings and articles from trusted sources you can check out before committing to a mattress purchase. We also recommend making note of the brand's warranty and return policy, so you can replace the mattress if you aren't getting a good night's sleep.
